Certain criminal actions will build up a debuff called infamy. This helps deter crime and abuse of weaker players. This will add a skull icon next to a player’s name. While you have infamy you can click the debuff skull icon in the lower left to show you how many seconds you have left before it wears off.

You can’t reincarnate while infamous and if you have more than 1 minute you can’t gain skill experience. If you get large amounts you will notice reduced dodge and move speed, in addition to increased damage from towers. Other players can safely kill you without penalty, even on safe maps! You can’t enter Wellington while infamous and if you have over 2 minutes of it then it wont drain on safe maps. You can no longer use healing fountains, Admin towers will target you even over structures, and if you die you will end up in the deep cave instead of crossroads. Note that death loot drop rates are at their worst when infamous, regardless of level. There are various ways to build up infamy:

1.Attacking an innocent (not infamous) player. This type of infamy wont exceed 30 seconds.

2.Getting attacked by towers after damaging someone else’s structure. This won’t exceed 6 minutes.

3.Murdering an innocent player. This can give you between 1 minute and 1 hour of infamy depending on how much weaker your victim is compared to you. Higher level fights have less penalties. Cannot exceed 8 hours.

4.Looting locks. This adds 2 minutes each time.

5.Going through doors you aren’t supposed to access. This adds 1 minute each time.

Infamy reduces over time naturally as your hunger bar drains. You have to eat something and expend energy or move if you want it to drain. If you don’t want to wait there are a couple other ways to get rid of it. You can find an underworld altar and drop some gold to pay it off. You can also die which removes 80% of your infamy though it wont reduce it below 1 hour.
