Armor is a primary source of defense to mitigate incoming damage. Armor Skills also improve the effectiveness of defense, increasing with level. The three armor types, light, medium, and heavy, have different mitigation scaling, dodge modifiers, and movement penalties while in combat.

Note however that defense does nothing to mitigate armor piercing damage by mobs or players.

Light Armor

  • Lowest damage mitigation scaling of the three armor types.
  • +10% bonus to dodge chance.
  • No movement speed penalty while in combat.
  • Approx. 54 defense required for 100% mitigation at 100 light armor skill.
  • Mitigation does not block any armor piercing damage.
  • Each skill bonus adds +5% exp in that skill, so +3 Archery also adds +15% Archery skill exp.

Some light armors also come with default enchants for specific skills.

Shields

  • Shields grant the chance to block attacks, reducing incoming damage by 75-95%.
  • Base block chance is 10% and increases by 0.5% per level in Shield Block, to a max of 60%.
  • Shields increase the delay between attacks by 400ms.

Targes

As an alternative to the standard shields, targes offer a lightweight offhand with minor defense which cannot perform shield blocks. The gain is there is no attack speed penalty. Currently steel targes can only be found rarely from chests.
